The Register has an article on a gentleman named Daniel Burd. He has isolated the bacteria that degrade plastic bags in existing landfills.

Apparently PC Club is laying everyone off and filing bankruptcy.
Not that many people use them much these days, what with newegg and amazon around…
But it *was* handy to have a local small shop with (occasionally) cheap prices on home-user hardware located (somewhat) close by.

Ok, so the link doesn’t actually work. I just wanted it listed since it went to the original article. If you search online for the title’s string you’ll see a bunch of other sites that linked to the original article or quoted from it as well.

A California company has figured out how to use two simple materials — water and salt — to create a solution that wipes out single-celled organisms, and which appears to speed healing of burns, wounds and diabetic ulcers.
It is potable too!

NOTE – another old news article, again, for reference.
Scientists in Australia have come up with a potential 3-day cure for Malaria… back in 2004. They also claimed it should be on the markets in three years, which would ahve been 2007. So this is no longer a world-wide health concern anymore, right?
